russ7842Took the cat our for a ride last night. I got home, put it in park, turned out the lights, and could not get the key all the way off to get it out of the ignition. The dash lights stayed on it would ding when opening the door. Anyone have anidea what the problem might be. The dealer said he thought it might be a bad ignition switch. I am not sure they know what they are talking about.
Thanks
Larry LordCheck both your steering wheel and shifter for holding the key in.
Try turning the steering wheel while trying to pull the key and also shift from park to drive and back into park to be sure that you are fully in park.
Try pressing the shifter harder forward to see if that helps.
I doubt the ignition switch is bad. It's probably one of the interlocks.

wallygator310Had that happen with a Jeep Grand Cherokee. It was the plastic rod in the column that was a lock of some kind that broke at the end and kept the ignition lock from turning completley enough to get the key out. Maybe the same thing on yours???

MidlifeProwlerIt happened to me. Under the chrome shifter bezel at about
11 o'clock, there is a cable that came loose from the
shifter mechanism that allows the ignition lock cylinder to rotate fully back to the off position when you shift back into park. Reconnect that cable and you should be able to
remove key.
RayORRR ... your car just wants to spend more quality time with you and this is her way of communicating it? Please share the results, though. Thanks.
russ7842I contacted the dealer and they are convinced it is the lock. I am taking it in on Wednesday. Midlife had a suggestion about the cable under the chrome shifter bezel. Is there an easy way to get it off so I can check that befire going to the shop.
Thanks
idivePop the tabs at the corners with a credit card.
ed monahanRuss, 4 tabs, two on each side, near the front and back "corners". Hope that works.
russ7842I popped the bezel last night and there it was. The cable did come loose. I hooked it back up and everything worked again. Thanks for all the help guys.
BuckNekkidYou gotta love the resources available on this board, don't ya?

God Bless you guys

wanskyIgnition key stuck. From the instructions on this board I lifted the shifter bezel and found thin loose cable, but couldn't see slot in shifter mechanism to reconnect it to as described.

I just registered but bought 2001 silver last July, with a birthday of March 2002. Maybe last Plymouth badge. Added Mopar SS muffler system, flaps, and Alpine XM ready radio, with antenna placed where Phat's is.

These boards have really been helpful for a 65 year old.

Thanks, Guys.

MidlifeProwlerWansky,
Actually, it's a small forked hook that the cable slips into about 11 O'clock position. Hope this helps.

Silver...what a great choice. Good luck with your kat.

wanskyThanks everyone. The Prowler Specialist at Fairfax Chrysler attached the little cable immediately and said forget any charge for it.

At another time I had a "low air" message go off in the dash and couldn't get the tire valve stem to take any air from a "pay for air" gas station unit, and thought the valve was bad. This same guy fixed the leak, refused to sell me a new tire, said the valve was fine, and said many gas stations have air pumps that don't fit the run flat stem properly.

I think the magic is having a Prowler, and everyone at the dealership gives Prowler owners immunity. I see all of you treating each other this way also, and its quite refreshing.

Best to all of you Prowler owners.

ALLEY CATI remember once that GaryC had a key stuck in the ignition and wouldn't turn forward to start. He beat on it,,,kicked it with the heel of his shoe,,,,beat some more on it,,,,,,,,,,,and finally figured out that it was the key to his Dodge Ram that wouldn't work in the Prowler
